The officials and residents of the town of New London have recently been preoccupied with coyotes as at least one coyote has been seen strolling around town and at least one small pet has gone missing. Reporter Judy Benson attending an informational community meeting and has been reporting on the sightings and on what the town plans on doing. Easy access to public records makes our jobs as journalists easier and is often required by law. In 2015, the Connecticut legislation passed a law that requires that police department make information and records about arrests publicly available “from the time of arrest.” Reporter Lindsay Boyle looked to see how many of the local agencies are in compliance.
Recently, Connecticut College hosted a panel on activism and invited panelists including activists from the recent women’s march on the Capitol, immigration rights, and a member of the so-called Central Park 5. Reporter Martha Shanahan was at the panel and stopped by to talk about what she saw and heard.

On this week's episode, reporter Judy Benson stopped by to talk about the story she broke regarding the wastewater discharge discovered on the U.S. Coast Guard Academy campus that had been spilling into the Thames River for about 20 years.
On Friday, April 21, The Day co-hosted a photo exhibit of maritime photos by staff photographers. Sean Elliot, director of photographly spoke with us to give a brief preview of the show.
And finally, reporter Amanda Hutchinson gave us some background on her story about Lonnie Bailey, an Oklahoma rancher with connections to southeastern Connecticut, who suffered property damage during the recent wildfires ravaging parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Colorado.

She'll also talk to us about the allegations of a human trafficking ring involving a local businessman. We'll end with reporter Martha Shanahan who recently had the opportunity to go to a shooting range with a few of her fellow The Day coworkers.
